OPP charge Thunder Bay tractor trailer driver with careless driving

The driver is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 20 to answer to the charges.

ATIKOKAN – The OPP has charged the driver of a tractor trailer log truck after receiving a report that it was being driven dangerously on Sunday at around 8 p.m. in Atikokan.

The report said the log truck was on Highway 11 near the Rainy River District border with the District of Thunder Bay.

“The tractor trailer unit forced another vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway and was observed to be repeatedly crossing over the centre line into the oncoming lane,” an OPP media release said. 

“Atikokan OPP acquired video of the offence and began an investigation that was assisted by the Ministry of Transportation Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Branch and the Canada Border Services Agency Inland Immigration Enforcement Branch.” 

A 24-year-old driver from Thunder Bay is charged with the following offences under the Highway Traffic Act: Careless driving, Falsify record or document, Drive commercial motor vehicle without inspection.

The driver is scheduled to appear in the Atikokan Ontario Court of Justice on Sept. 20 to answer to the charges.

“It is every driver's responsibility to share our roads safely,” the release said. 

“This is particularly important when large commercial vehicles are present. Commercial Motor Vehicle safety forms part of the OPP's overall Provincial Traffic Safety Strategy.”
