SAGANAGONS LAKE – OPP Northwest Region is reporting that the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the body of a man from Indianapolis, Indiana, who went missing after a canoe capsized on Saganagons Lake in Quetico Provincial Park.

According to Brenda Smith Copass-Israels, her brother Tony Smith, his three sons, and some friends went on a canoe trip to Saganagons Lake.

On June 5, the six individuals in two canoes hit an unexpected, fast-moving storm where they capsized.

Tony and two of his sons made it ashore, but the third son, Grant Smith, did not.

Police found his body at around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

OPP and Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry resources have cleared the area.

Before Grant's body was found, the family setup a a GoFundMe page.

The page states that “any type of donation to help the family out in this unthinkable time of tragedy would be tremendous.”
