PIKANGIKUM — OPP is investigating a suspicious death in Pikangikum First Nation.
On Thursday, police were dispatched to a location near Airport Road in Pikangikum First Nation for an individual in distress.
The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Douglas Turtle of Pikangikum First Nation.
A postmortem examination will be conducted at the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in Toronto.
“The OPP North West Crime Unit is continuing to investigate, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the OFPS,” a release issued on Saturday by OPP said.
Members of the public can expect to see a large police presence in the area as the investigation continues.
