THUNDER BAY – Hundreds of drivers in the OPP’s Northwest Region are a little lighter in the pocket after a weekend blitz on area highways.

Police, in a release issued on Tuesday, said they issued 935 speeding tickets between Friday and Monday. Additionally, they ticketed 19 people for seatbelt violations, 14 more for distracted driving and 12 more were charged with stunt driving.

Stunt driving includes being caught doing 40-kilometres above the speed limit in a 70-kilometre zone, or 50 kilometres over the speed limit where the posted limit is 80 kilometres-an-hour or more.

OPP said they also issued 365 warnings over the long weekend.
