FORT FRANCES — Provincial police are reminding the public to have a keen eye when driving during dusk and at dawn for errant wild animals that might make their way onto roadways.
Const. Guy Beaudry noted there has been an increase in incidents in the area for the month of October, specifically involving deer.
Beaudry estimates there have been close to a dozen reported collisions involving deer and vehicles.
"[The] timeline for these collisions are around sunset and in the early morning," he said, adding that his own family has had a few close calls with deer on the roads.
Provincial Police have provided tips on how drivers could avoid potential collisions with deer, including being especially attentive from sunset to midnight and during the hours shortly before and after sunrise, using a vehicle high-beams when there is no oncoming traffic and braking firmly when a deer is spotted in the travel path and to stay in your lane.
None of the October collisions reported any human injuries.
