OPP update homicide investigation at KI First Nation

Two people were found dead in the remote First Nation on New Year's Day.

KITCHENUHMAYKOOSIB INNINUWUG FIRST NATION — Ontario Provincial Police have completed their initial investigation into two recent deaths in the remote fly-in community of Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation.

On the afternoon of Jan. 1, 2024, members of the OPP KI detachment first located one deceased individual, believed to be the victim of a homicide, then found a second deceased person.

The identities of the deceased, the cause of their deaths, and other details of the incident are still being withheld.

In a brief update released Wednesday, police said the investigation is ongoing but they are not looking for any suspects.

They also confirmed that there are no outstanding public safety concerns arising from the case.
