FORT FRANCES – The respiratory outbreak at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home has ended.
Riverside Health Care, which operates the facility, and the Northwestern Health Unit declared a respiratory outbreak at Rainycrest on Jan. 20.
Visiting was restricted to not more than two visitors a time for any resident, and visits were to take place in residents’ rooms and not common areas.
Those visitor restrictions have been lifted, Riverside stated in a news release on Monday.
However, Riverside still urges all visitors to conduct a self-screening before entering Rainycrest or any of its other facilities, which include La Verendrye General Hospital and Emo Health Centre.
Anyone experiencing fever, cough, sore throat or other flu-like symptoms is asked not to visit.
A news release from Riverside also reminds visitors that they can curb the spread of infections by, among other measures, washing hands often and “maintaining good cough and sneeze etiquette.”
The number of Rainycrest residents infected in the outbreak was not disclosed, nor was the type of infection except that it wasn’t COVID-19.
