UPDATE: Hwy 17 still closed after fatal collision near Ignace

IGNACE — A fatal collision has closed part of Highway 17, west of Ignace.

Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle collision that occurred early Thursday morning.

Shortly after 3:30 a.m., officers and Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to a collision involving two commercial motor vehicles on Highway 17 west of the township of Ignace.

As a result, Highway 17 is still closed between Shabaqua Corners through the township of Ignace and up to Highway 622.

A spokesperson for the OPP said the highway will remain closed for an extended period while officers continue to investigate. 

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan alternative routes.

No other details were available at this time. 

Police appreciate the public's patience and cooperation during this time.
