Pedestrian killed in Highway 17 collision

DRYDEN, ON — Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed that one person died in a collision on Highway 17 west of Dryden on Monday evening.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, OPP did not identify the victim, but said the deceased was a pedestrian involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle near Baptist Church Road in the Township of Machin.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m., and forced the closure of the highway for several hours.

Police issued a reminder to members of the public about the importance of wearing reflective clothing when walking outdoors in the early morning and evening, especially after dark.
