SIOUX LOOKOUT — One person was left with injuries after an encounter with a lynx.

Provincial police said officers responded to reports of the incident on Thursday night in the area of Millar Crescent in Sioux Lookout.

The individual was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers patrolled the area but did not see the lynx.

Police cautioned people to never approach wildcats, especially if they're near a kill or with young, and to never offer food or run away.

  • If you're with others, stay together and act as a group.
  • Face the animal and talk firmly while slowly backing away.
  • Always leave the animal an escape route.
  • Do not crouch down or try to hide, instead try to appear larger.
  • Do not take your eyes off the animal or turn your back.
  • If the animal does not flee, be more assertive by shouting, waving your arms and throwing anything available.
