Phase one of McLeod Park upgrades continue

As part of the $490,000 investment by Northern Ontario Heritage Fund to revitalize McLeod Park, approximately 580 square metres of space will see improvements.

KENORA – The City of Kenora is making a considerable number of improvements to the McLeod Park area including adjustments to parking, washrooms, new play equipment, and a picnic seating area.

The city plans to develop the park in two phases.

The first phase is already underway, which began with the refreshment of Husky the Muskie.

Additional projects in phases One of the Harbourfront Business Development Plan will enhance the visitor experience.

The improvements for Phase 1 include the following:

  1. Plaza: Adjacent to the parking lot and will include a pergola, bistro tables, bike racks, washroom signage, bollards and new concrete.
  2. Logging Themed Play Area: Play area to include a seesaw, climbing posts, rolling log, clatter bridge and climbing frame.
  3. Picnic Area: Adjacent to the parking lot and will include accessible harvest tables for picnic seating, a tree grove, native grasses, and McLeod Park Gateway signage.

However, before phase two can begin, the city will need to conduct Municipal Class Environmental Assessment because of the extensive work on municipal roads and water infrastructure.

Phase 2 includes improvement to fallen log forest, log terrace, amphitheatre, tugboat, access improvements, a fishing pier and stage.
