ATIKOKAN – A traffic complaint in Atikokan led to an impaired driver being taken off the road.

Ontario Provincial Police say they responded to reports of a vehicle swerving on Highway 11B in the town, at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

Police located the motor vehicle in question, conducted a traffic stop, and as a result, charged a 36-year-old man with numerous offences.

The accused was charged with flight from peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and failure to comply with demand.

The driver also received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court in Fort Frances on Monday for a bail hearing.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people charged with crimes when we are unlikely to follow the case through to its conclusion in court.
