RAINY RIVER FIRST NATIONS – Water service in Rainy River First Nations will, with a little luck, be fully restored by the weekend, the community’s public works manager said Tuesday.
“At this time we are optimistic that we will be able to re-engage the system for at least a couple hours by the end of (Tuesday), disengaging the plant again in the evening to continue to build water levels,” Kyle Kellar said in an email to Newswatch.
“We hope to have uninterrupted service by the end of the week at the latest, barring any unforeseen circumstances,” the email continued.
“That being said, service disruptions remain in high probability as we face the challenging issues of aging infrastructure not able to meet demand.
“We do have a water treatment plant upgrade under process, but until that is complete and we upgrade the infrastructure it will likely continue to be an intermittent issue.”
A notice posted on social media Sunday night said water service to Rainy River First Nations residents had been disrupted due to a problem maintaining water pressure in the system.
The notice said water would be hauled in while the system is fixed and that restoring the system back to full service “may take some time.”
Rainy River First Nations took to Facebook Monday morning to announce measures “to support our members during this challenging time.”
The actions include a takeout spaghetti dinner on Monday and the availability of shower facilities at the Emo Inn.
Another dinner was arranged Tuesday for pickup at the community gym.
