DRYDEN — This year’s property tax levy increase in Dryden is 2.33 per cent, down from the 3.97 per cent increase proposed to city council in December.

Councillors gave unanimous approval to the 2025 operating and capital budgets Monday night.

City staff deserves kudos for finding ways to shrink the levy increase, Mayor Jack Harrison said Tuesday.

“We asked them to dig deep and they came back with some recommendations that would lower our tax increase,” he said.

As well, he said, the province’s solicitor general helped with “a very large grant” to cover much of the city’s Ontario Provincial Police costs.

The tax revenue needed to meet the city's operating and capital budget estimates for the year is $16.66 million, $375,000 greater than in 2024.

The largest category of operating expenses is policing at about $5.7 million, up $143,000 from last year.
