Environment Canada has updated rainfall warnings it issued Thursday that blanket much of the southern portion of Ontario's Northwest.

In the Kenora area, the agency projected rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 millimetres by Thursday evening, with an additional 30 to 50 millimetres possible by late morning on Friday.

Other areas, including the Fort Frances, Dryden, and Atikokan regions, remained on track for rainfall amounts of 60 to 80 millimetres by Friday night or early Saturday morning, as projected in an Environment Canada warning issued Wednesday.

For those areas, heavy rain was expected to continue throughout Friday and possibly into Saturday morning.

“The track of the system is still uncertain and the rainfall amounts expected for tonight and Friday could change dramatically,” said Environment Canada in an updated rainfall warning on Thursday.

Environment Canada said the precipitation comes as a slow-moving low pressure system moves across the region.
