FORT FRANCES – Enhanced visitor restrictions are in place amid a respiratory outbreak at Rainycrest Long Term Care Home.

Only two visitors or caregivers may see a resident at once, and each guest should visit just one resident. In addition, each visit must take place in the resident’s room and not in common areas.

Exceptions apply to palliative care visitation.

A statement from Riverside Health Care, which operates Rainycrest as well as the general hospital in Fort Frances, said visitors should “conduct a self-screening before entering our facilities” and refrain from visiting when “experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or other flu-like symptoms.”

The outbreak is affecting the entire Rainycrest facility, a Riverside Health Care spokesperson said Tuesday.

The number of residents infected was not disclosed, nor was the type - other than to say it’s not a COVID-19 outbreak.
