Robbery suspect flees in stolen vehicle

Incident occurred on Jan. 30 in Sioux Lookout.

SIOUX LOOKOUT – A disturbance at a Sioux Lookout business led to two counts of motor vehicle theft being laid against a 26-year-old Kasabonika Lake First Nation man.

According to a release issued on Sunday, police, just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 30, responded to a report of an attempted theft from a store in the community. The accused fled in a stolen vehicle.

A short while later police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 72 involving the stolen vehicle.

Further investigation revealed the driver was impaired.

The Kasabonika Lake First nation man was also charged with operation while impaired, alcohol and drugs, robbery with violence and dangerous operation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded to the Kenora District Jail. He’s expected back in court on Tuesday.
