SANDY LAKE FIRST NATION – A 30-year-old Sandy Lake man is suspected of driving while impaired with three young children in his vehicle.

The accused, who faces charge of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and a single count of mischief, was pulled over after Nishnawbe Aski Nation Police received a call for service about a collision involving a suspected impaired driver.

Police located the man’s red pickup truck in a ditch at the corner of Airport and River roads in Sandy Lake First Nation.

Police also learned that three small children, between the ages of two and five, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported after the children were assessed at the community nursing station.

The accused was taken into custody and has since been released with conditions and a future court date.

It is Newswatch policy not to name suspects in cases that are unlikely to be followed through to their conclusion in court.
