THUNDER BAY — French-language schools in the Northwest that were forced to close on Wednesday while police investigated bomb threats welcomed students back to class on Thursday.
Ten schools operated by the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales were closed Wednesday because of a threat, including Franco-Supérieur and ÉSC de La Vérendrye in Thunder Bay.
In a release Wednesday afternoon, the board said it was prepared to reopen all of those schools on Thursday, after police visited all of the schools to ensure there was no threat.
The board said it had received a threatening message overnight, along with some other Francophone boards in Northern Ontario.
Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Wednesday they were investigating multiple bomb threats targeting schools at various boards across Northern Ontario. Police said the threats were accompanied by demands for payment.
No evidence of actual devices was uncovered in schools, the OPP said Wednesday.
