Severe thunderstorm warnings for Northwest

Strong wind gusts, nickel-sized hail possible for areas of Northwestern Ontario including Kenora, Red Lake, amid severe thunderstorm warning.

KENORA – A wide swath of Northwestern Ontario is under a severe thunderstorm warning, with strong wind gusts and nickel-sized hail potentially in the forecast.

Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the region including Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Grassy Narrows, and Red Lake just after 10 a.m. EST.

Meteorologists with the agency were tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very gusts up to 90 km/h, nickel-sized hail, and heavy rain, it said.

Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm watch earlier in the morning for the Kenora area.
