Severe thunderstorm warnings for Northwest

Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches across Northwestern Ontario, warning of potential strong winds and hail.

DRYDEN, Ont. – Several areas across Northwestern Ontario were under severe thunderstorm warnings or watches Tuesday evening.

Weather including hail and strong wind gusts was expected as thunderstorms over Southern Manitoba tracked eastwards in the late afternoon and evening.

Environment Canada issued one severe thunderstorm warning for the Rainy River, Sleeman, and Stratton area, and another for the Namakan Lake area, south of Mine Centre and Seine River Village.

Both warnings included the possibility for wind gusts up to 90 km/h and nickel-sized hail.

The agency also issued thunderstorm watches warning of potentially similar conditions broadly across the region for areas including Atikokan, Shebandowan, Quetico, Kenora, and Grassy Narrows.
