SIOUX LOOKOUT — The Town of Sioux Lookout is inviting residential property and business owners to apply for money aimed at funding projects that help revitalize the community.
The town’s Community Improvement Plan Program offers money for improvements in specific parts of Sioux Lookout. It is focused on downtown revitalization, economic development and environmental sustainability, according to a press release from the municipality.
The town said that 16 projects were approved through the program last year; they had a “significant impact by revitalizing storefronts, enhancing accessibility, and beautifying public spaces,” the release said.
"The Community Improvement Plan is an essential tool for supporting private investment in Sioux Lookout,” mayor Doug Lawarance was quoted as saying in the release. “By empowering local businesses to enhance their properties, we’re not only beautifying our community but also strengthening the economic foundation that supports us all.”
“These partnerships are key to creating a vibrant, thriving town."
This year, the town said, applications can be submitted for projects such as building façade improvements, accessibility enhancements, residential intensification and property rehabilitation and revitalization. Their success will be based on whether they fit with the program’s goals and available funding.
"Private investment is vital to the growth and prosperity of Sioux Lookout,” town CAO Brian MacKinnon was quoted as saying in the release. “The CIP program allows us to work with local businesses to create a more welcoming and dynamic community.”
Applications are being accepted until Feb. 28.
