WAUZHUSHK ONIGUM NATION — Both Treaty Three Police (T3) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been cleared by a Special Investigations Unit investigation (SIU).

The SIU reports that local officers were investigating reports of an intoxicated woman driving as well as threatening suicide on June 29.

Officers, including a K9 officer and handler, tracked the woman for approximately two kilometres into waist-high grass.

The report states that officers heard the screams of a woman shortly after.

The police dog had located the individual and bitten the calf of the suspect.

She was transported from the area by ambulance to the hospital.

On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no reasonable grounds to believe that the OPP dog handler committed a criminal offence in connection with the woman's arrest and injury.
