THUNDER BAY — Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a 59-year-old man following an incident at Pickle Lake.
The man passed away on the weekend at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
According to background information provided by the SIU, on Sept. 11 OPP officers responded to a business location in Pickle Lake where they encountered a group of people.
While dealing with these individuals, they noticed a person behind them who required medical attention.
After paramedics medically cleared the man, he was arrested and taken to the local OPP detachment where he subsequently went into medical distress.
He was initially taken to a local medical facility, then airlifted to Thunder Bay where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.
The SIU has assigned two investigators and one forensic investigator to the case.
