SIU invokes mandate in Pikangikum arrest

A person arrested on Wednesday reported an injury after being taken into custody.

PIKANGIKUM FIRST NATION – The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate after an incident in Pikangikum First Nation.

According to a release issued on Friday by the SIU, police were called for service in the community on Wednesday, Feb. 19, resulting in the arrest of an individual.

Once in custody, the accused reported an injury and was subsequently taken to the nursing station for treatment.

Ontario Provincial Police notified the SIU of the incident and as a result, the OPP are unable to provide further information about the case.
