The first significant snowfall of the season could land in parts of the region before the end of the week.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Wednesday, covering an area including Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake, as far east as Armstrong and northern portions of Greenstone.

The snowfall is expected to begin Wednesday night, with up to five centimetres expected through Thursday, with a second round expected to begin Thursday night and into Friday that could dump another five to 10 centimetres.

Environment Canada cautioned that there remains some uncertainty about the track of the low pressure systems, and that snowfall amounts could be reduced if the snow is mixed with rain.

Temperatures are expected to remain close to 0 C for the area over the next few days, before dropping to -5 C on Friday night.
