SAULT STE. MARIE -- One year after Jake Corbiere disappeared, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and Garden River First Nation are working together to help solve the mystery of the missing 39-year-old.
Corbiere, who was reported missing on March 12, 2023, was last seen in the Churchill Avenue area. Police now suspect foul play was involved.
“Over the last year investigators have followed every lead that has come forward,” Sault Police Chief Hugh Stevenson said in a news release issued today. “We have conducted several grid searches, consulted financial records, and spoken with people in the community, without success. Somebody out there knows something about Jake, and we urge them to come forward.”
As SooToday reported last week, community members rallied around Corbiere's family and friends Friday night during a solemn vigil held in Garden River First Nation, which has put up a $25,000 reward for information that leads police to Corbiere.
“Jake’s family, friends, and our entire community are eager to find him,” Garden River First Nation Chief Karen Bell said in today's news release. “It is our hope, by offering this reward, someone comes forward to provide crucial information so we can bring Jake home.”
Anyone with information on Corbiere's whereabouts is urged to contact Sault Police by calling Detective Sergeant Darren Corocoran at 705-949-6300, ext. 387.
People can also provide information anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 705-942-7867 or 1-800-222-8477, or by submitting a web-tip or downloading the P3 app.
