DRYDEN — Two New Brunswick residents face a long list of charges after allegedly fleeing from the scene of a traffic accident in Dryden.

Details of the incident, which culminated with the deployment of a tire deflation device, were released Tuesday evening by OPP.

Police said officers responding Saturday evening to a collision found that one of the motorists had failed to remain.

His vehicle was subsequently located, but when police tried to initiate a traffic stop, he eluded apprehension.

Officers from the Red Lake detachment were then notified to be on the lookout, and spotted the vehicle on Highway 105 where they placed a spike belt on the road to puncture its tires.

That brought a successful conclusion to the pursuit, the arrest of the driver at the scene, and the arrest of a passenger a short time later.

A 37-year-old Saint John man is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, impaired driving, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and numerous other offences.

A 29-year-old man, also from Saint John,  is charged with possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and obstructing a peace officer.

Both accused were held in custody pending an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
