Stolen commercial vehicle leads to massive cannabis haul

Police recovered 186 kilograms of cannabis after stopping an alleged stolen commercial motor vehicle.

DRYDEN – The theft of a commercial motor vehicle led to the seizure of 186 kilograms of cannabis.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Thursday, said they were dispatched to investigate the missing vehicle at about 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 16.

The vehicle was located on Highway 17 in Revell Township, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

The accused thieves were searched, leading to the alleged discovery of cocaine and a further search of the commercial motor vehicle uncovered 410 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis.

A 39-year-old Brampton, Ont. man was charged with possession, produce sell or import anything to use, produce, sell or distribute illicit cannabis, possession for the purpose of distributing, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine) and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

A 44-year-old Brampton man was charged with the same five offences, but only one count of failure to comply with an undertaking.

Both men were remanded into custody to await a court appearance on Friday in Dryden.
