Suspect faces multiple assault charges after OPP officers attacked

Two officers were taken to hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life threatening and both have since been released from hospital, while a third had minor injuries.

DRYDEN — Police have arrested a 30-year-old after an incident that injured three officers.

In an update issued late Wednesday afternoon, provincial police said 30-year-old Dilan Ames was arrested and has been charged iwth two counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer, three counts of resisting a peace officer, and one count each of assault with a weapon and public mischief.

Police had responded to a Pitt Avenue residence in Dryden on Tuesday evening, when three officers were attacked by a suspect with an edged weapon.

Two officers were taken to hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life threatening. Both have since been released from hospital. A third officer had minor injuries and did not need to be taken to hospital.

Police said Ames had previously been released from custody on a conditional sentence order for an incident on Dec. 3, 2022 that resulted in a charge of assaulting a peace officer.

Ames remains in custody and is due to appear in a Kenora court at a later date.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
