Suspicious death in Sabaskong Bay

Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a home in the Ojibways of Onigaming community.

SABASKONG BAY FIRST NATION – Police are investigating what they termed the suspicious death of a woman in the Ojibways of Onigaming community.

Officers with Treaty Three Police found a woman deceased after responding to a home on Anishinaabe Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

The Ontario Provincial Police’s North West Crime Unit is assisting in the investigation, which is being directed by the OPP.           

In a release, the OPP said police are looking for a male known to be at the home earlier on Monday, but said there was not believed there to be any imminent threat to public safety.

The First Nation is located on Highway 71 just north of Nestor Falls.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or provide information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto to confirm the identity of the victim and the cause of death, the OPP said in a release.
