Teacher in Deer Lake First Nation charged with sexual assault

DEER LAKE FIRST NATION — A 40-year-old from Toronto who had been working as a teacher in the community faces a charge of sexual assault.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service confirmed a complaint had been received on July 14 about a sexual assault that had allegedly occurred.

The investigation led to Pouria Tabaeini, who was working in the community as a teacher, to be charged with sexual assault.

Police said the alleged victim is an adult woman, who was not a student.

Tabaeini has been released from custody and is due to appear in court in September.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
