THUNDER BAY – Police in Pikangikum First Nation say they have arrested a 17-year-old and charged them with second-degree murder in relation to a suspicious death in the community on March 27.

The teen cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police, who released little detail about the incident, said the accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 10.

Police ask anyone who might have information about the case to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-8477 (TIPS).

Earlier this year a 37-year-old Pikangikum First Nation resident was charged with manslaughter in connection with the 2024 death of a 24-year-old female who was found deceased inside his residence.

Police on Saturday identified the victim as 50-year-old Douglas Turtle.
