DEER LAKE FIRST NATION — Details remain sketchy, but three people are reportedly unaccounted for following a fire on Deer Lake First Nation.

According to a social media post Monday by Nishnawbe Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief Bobby Narcisse, the blaze broke out in a residence late Sunday night in the fly-in community of 1,100 people, about 320 kilometres north of Kenora.

Narcisse's message stated that a couple of people were unaccounted for, but he subsequently told Dougall Media that three individuals are still missing.

He said NAN's thoughts and prayers are with the community.

The Office of the Fire Marshal confirmed that it has been called in to investigate the cause, origin and circumstances of a fire in a residential home.

A spokesperson said three staff members have been assigned to the case, and will be dispatched shortly to Deer Lake to begin an on-scene investigation.
