The Treaty Three Police Service says reports of fentanyl in the region are on the rise.

The police service issued a news release on Wednesday, stating that its members are concerned and provided a warning to residents.

Police cautioned that fentanyl can be found in various forms, including powder or pills, or can be laced into other drugs.

"Fentanyl has been responsible for a sharp rise in opioid-related overdose deaths in recent years," police said in a statement. "It is often mixed with other drugs such as heroin, cocaine, or counterfeit prescription pills, making it difficult for users to know its presence and potency. Even a tiny amount of fentanyl can be lethal."

Treaty Three police said addressing fentanyl "requires a multifaceted approach involving education, prevention, enforcement, and support."

Anyone with information related to a crime, suspicious activity, or wanted individual, is urged to contact their nearest law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers.
