RAINY RIVER, ON — A frightening incident in the Rainy River district has led the OPP to issue another warning about some unpredictable ice conditions on lakes and rivers in Northwestern Ontario.

Police said a pickup truck went through the ice on the Rainy River on Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle was being used to clear a path to an ice-fishing hut when the ice collapsed.

Within a matter of minutes, the truck was fully submerged.

Fortunately, the operator of the vehicle escaped injury.

OPP said anyone venturing onto ice should check conditions ahead of time, and should always let someone know the planned route and expected time of return.
