KENORA -- Two people were found safe after a canoe capsized Saturday in Norman Dam channel.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers were dispatched Saturday, June 11 to Lake of the Woods channel to the Norman Dam to a report of a canoe that was witnessed with two people in it, but later found capsized.

Police attended in an OPP vessel, on foot, and requested a helicopter to be dispatched.

Police say a bag was located with ID and an overturned canoe.

The residence was attended, and the occupants were found safe.

Police would like to ask the public to contact them if they find themselves in a similar situation. A broken-down boat or vehicle left in an unusual spot could prompt numerous resources to search for someone believed to be in danger.
