Vehicle theft leads to several charges

FORT FRANCES — A 28-year-old faces multiple charges after a vehicle was stolen in the downtown area.

Provincial police said officers responded on Thursday afternoon to a report of a stolen vehicle from the business section on Scott Street, which was followed by another call about an erratic driver heading east on Highway 11 in a vehicle matching the description of the stolen one.

Police found the vehicle more than 100 kilometres away and were able to arrest a male driver and female passenger. The male driver is alleged to have been impaired by alcohol, was on probation, and prohibited to operate a motor vehicle.

A 28-year-old is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, impaired operaiton of a vehicle, failure to comply with a probation order, and operation a vehicle while prohibited.

He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in a Fort Frances court on Friday.
