Wabaseemoong transitioning from Treaty 3 police to OPP

The Ontario Provincial Police will take over policing in the Wabaseemoong Independent Nations on Nov 7.

KENORA — On Nov 7 at midnight the Ontario Provincial Police will take over from the Treaty Three Police Service in the Wabaseemoong Independent Nations of One Man Lake, Swan Lake and Whitedog also known as Whitedog First Nation.

OPP confirmed the transition was taking place in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

According to the release, the OPP's Kenora Detachment will provide policing services in Wabaseemoong Independent Nations. Officers will be deployed out of a satellite detachment in Wabaseemoong, under detachment commander acting inspector Jim Neild.

OPP advises residents of Wabaseemoong Independent Nations that 911 services are and will remain available in emergencies and that anyone requiring police assistance for a non-emergency can call them at 1-888-310-1122.
