SIOUX LOOKOUT — Members of the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and the OPP Emergency Response Team arrested and charged an individual after a robbery this week in Sioux Lookout.
The province's Special Investigations Unit has since invoked its mandate, a release issued on Saturday by OPP said.
On Feb. 21, around 7 p.m., Sioux Lookout OPP were dispatched to a report of a robbery at a grocery store on Queen Street.
The police arrived and located the individual nearby. During the interaction with the individual, police discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN).
The individual was then taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old Sioux Lookout man has been charged with robbery with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
The accused was held for bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sioux Lookout on Feb. 22.
The OPP has notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information.
