Wind at root of Dryden water glitch, mayor says

Windy weather caused power outages, which stopped pumps
Dryden

Wind is the culprit in Dryden’s temporary water woes, the city’s mayor said Friday.

Windy weather caused power outages Thursday evening, Mayor Jack Harrison said.

One outage “took out” the water system’s main pump. A backup pump was put to work but then got knocked out by a second outage, he said.

A city-wide boil water advisory was issued in response. Residents are advised to bring tap water to a boil before using it for such things as cooking or making ice, and to use cooled boiled water for washing and preparing foods, brushing teeth and drinking.

The city-wide boil water advisory necessitated by the pumps’ failures is “pretty unusual” for Dryden, he said.

“We’ve got a really good crew there watching over our water treatment plant,” he said. “So yeah, this is not normal, for sure.”

Harrison said he expects the advisory will be lifted on Saturday or Sunday.
