Nishnawbe Aski police have arrested and charged a 33 year-old woman with possession and trafficking of cocaine.

KINGFISHER LAKE — A 33 year-old Kingfisher Lake First Nation woman has been charged with possessing and trafficking cocaine after Nishnawbe Aski police made an arrest in the remote community over the weekend.

According to a media release issued by the Indigenous police service, officers were called Sunday afternoon to a home in the community, located over 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, over reports of a possible disturbance, which police said ended up being about an unwanted person in the home.

That person, police alleged, ended up having a quantity of suspected cocaine on her, as well as crack cocaine, money and other items police said are consistent with drug trafficking.

The accused was taken into custody without incident, police said. She’s been charged with possession of cocaine and possession of the drug with the purpose of trafficking.

She appeared in court for a bail hearing on Monday, police said, and was released with conditions and a future court date.
