Woman charged with impaired driving, mischief

SANDY LAKE FIRST NATION – A 48-year-old individual from Sandy Lake First Nation is facing impaired driving and mischief charges.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service noticed a pickup truck in a ditch on River Road around 7 p.m. on Oct. 11. Officers approached the vehicle and found an adult female in the driver’s seat.

Police helped her out of the vehicle and observed signs consistent with alcohol impairment.

Investigation revealed the woman was suspected of being involved in a collision with a parked vehicle before coming to rest in the ditch. Police further learned two parked cars had been damaged during that collision.

The driver was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.

The accused was released from custody with conditions and has a court appearance date set for next month.
