OLIVER PAIPOONGE – The Kam River Fighting Walleye’s home-and-home weekend sweep is complete.
Carter Nailen, Daxton Lang and Max Wright scored second-period goals on Saturday night to erase a 2-1 Thunder Bay North Stars lead, and went on to defeat their opponent 6-3 in front of 450 people at Norwest Arena.
Nickolas Fagnilli added a pair of goals in the third for the home team, who won for the fourth straight outing and improved to 18-8-0.
Marcellus Francis, Jamieson Franz and Keagan Jones, who cut Kam River’s lead to 5-3 12:16 into the third, scored for Thunder Bay.
Ashton Sadauskas made 29 saves to earn the win between the pipes for the Fighting Walleye, while Keenan Marks gave up six goals on 40 shots to take the loss.
The Fighting Walleye host the Sioux Lookout Bombers next Friday, while the North Stars travel to Red Lake on Friday.
Red Lake 11, Kenora 3: Jager Marshall had three goals and an assist and Nathan Dann added two goals and a helper to lead the Miners to a second straight victory. Matthew MacPherson also had a pair for Red Lake.
Ironwood 3, Sioux Lookout 2: Chase Krtanjek scored the equalizer at 5:09 of the third and Aidan Charron netted the winner with 24 seconds left in regulation, earning the Lumberjacks just their fourth win of the season. Ty Love and Mahekun Laroche had the Bombers goals.
