The family of Alfreda Jessie Woods sorrowfully share the news of her unexpected passing on December 24, 2024. Alfreda had a short journey with Cancer that came out of nowhere and ended just as quickly. Alfreda passed as she wanted, surrounded by her family while they shared stories and memories. After five long years she has been reunited with her loving husband Larry in heaven. Sharing in 52.5 years of marriage; the past five had felt like an eternity without him.
Alfreda has also been reunited with her son Christopher who passed in infancy but never left her heart, her parents, her older sister Linda and so many other loved ones that she held near to her heart.
Alfreda has left a hole in the hearts of her daughters Angela and Stacey (Livitski) - son-in-law Justin whom she shared a mischievous and special bond with (if you know, you know 😉), granddaughter Abby and numerous foster children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alfreda is also survived by her sister Doreen (Frank) who although separated by distance shared a close connection of their hearts. Her younger brother Ernie (Denise), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and so many others that held meaningful family connections. Alfreda touched the hearts and lives of many closely connected friends who she enjoyed "coffee", chats, games, shopping and travelling with.
Church life was also very important aspect of her life and she gave a lot of herself to ensure good works were completed. Alfreda helped in whatever ways she could cooking, baking, greeting, she was the President of the Altar Guild for many years, lay reader, People's Warden and doing whatever else was asked of her by her St. Mary's Nipigon family. Alfreda's Church and her extended Church family were a large part of her life, she planned the rest of her life around her Church events.
Our family would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the amazing team that cared for Alfreda, our beloved Mom and Grandma during her final days at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center. Starting with Dr MacGregor who we saw in the emergency department, for all of his wonderful investigation skills. Dr. Oyella who took such great care and time in all of her interactions with us and got a true peek into our family life and dynamics. Dr. Sellick from Hospice, I thank you for our frank and real conversations and the way you included all of us in our discussions. You truly embodied compassionate patient centered care and it was appreciated by all of us. I would also like to acknowledge our amazing EMS teams and the dedication and comfort they provide. And the wonderful support staff of 2B, the amazing, caring nurses; the physical and occupational therapists, and the incredible and dedicated PSW's that often had us laughing and everyone else who showed Alfreda and her family so much love and compassion.
As per Alfreda’s request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held when the ache in our hearts isn't so raw. Alfreda was not one for funerals and all of the sadness, so when we gather it will be with love and joy in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church in Nipigon.
