Mrs. Aquila Slobbe age 81 years passed away with loving family at her side in TBRHSC on Friday January 3, 2025.

Aquila was born in Conflenti, Catanzaro, Italy on February 27, 1943 to Teodoro and Maria Stranges. In 1958, she came to Canada with her mother and brother and settled in Fort William. It was here that she met the love of her life Rinaldo Slobbe and they married on April 15, 1961 and together they raised 2 daughters. She was known for her infectious smile, her kind-heartedness, her generosity, and was a woman that never found fault in anyone. Aquila was a faithful woman of God. She was full of life and energy, enjoying weekly cards with her girlfriends and never wanted to miss an event. Even in her last days, she was thoughtful and caring about her family and friends. She had a passion for people and spent endless hours volunteering throughout the community. Aquila was a member of Senior Club of St. Anthonys, the CWL, and the Ladies Auxiliary Italian Society.

When Aquila first arrived in Canada, she worked as a seamstress but is best known for her time spent at the “Italian Hall”. Her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Rinaldo; daughters: Elena (Peter) Serino, Sandra Slobbe (Matthew); grandchildren: Jorden, Lauren (Clayton), Neil, Ryan (Rachel), Nicholas; 3 great grandchildren: Ford, Reid, Elia; her brother Tony Stranges (Emilia), sister-in-law Marlene Stranges as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Raffaela DeLuca, brother-in-law Gennaro DeLuca, brother Bruno Stranges, and niece Julia DeLuca.

Special thanks to the Palliative Care team and all the wonderful nurses that provided exceptional care for her at TBRHSC.
