With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father and grandfather Cosimo Gino Figliomeni (Peewee) on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Cosimo was born on December 12, 1938, in Schreiber, Ontario, to Vincenzo and Rosa Figliomeni. His life was a testament to hard work, love, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
Cosimo worked tirelessly throughout his life as an auto mechanic and excelled in his craft. There was no challenge too great, no problem too complex—he could fix anything with skill and ingenuity.
Beyond his career, Cosimo was a man of remarkable kindness and generosity. His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and his classic jokes. Whether hosting gatherings or simply lending a helping hand, he embodied a spirit of love and togetherness.
He was everyone’s go-to handyman, capable of being a carpenter, mechanic, electrician, or plumber—whatever you needed, Cosimo was there, ready to help without hesitation. His legacy of service, warmth, and dedication to others will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Left to mourn is his loving wife of 59 years Rosetta, children Jim (Ramona), Mary-Lou (Tony) Lepore, Michael (Gisella), and grandchildren who he adored Nicholas, Nathan, Sienna, Milania, Michael and Vanessa. He will be sadly missed by his brothers Frank (Sylvia), Fred (Lucy), sister Mary (Luigi Spirito), sister-in-laws Diane Crupi, Franca Crupi, Tita Scaffeo, Nina Ierino, Maria (Cosimo Pellegrino) and brother-in-law Tony Crupi.
Pre-deceased by his son Vincenzo in infancy, parents Vincenzo and Rosa Figliomeni, brothers Dominic and Tony Figliomeni, sisters-in-law Dianne Figliomeni and Lena Crupi, brothers-in-law Mike Crupi, Domenic Crupi, Tony Scaffeo and Cosimo Ierino.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Cosimo's memory to the TBRHSC Northern Cancer Fund or Northern Cardiac Fund, honouring his enduring spirit and support for the community.
We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation TBRHSC medical staff and nurses who supported Cosimo throughout his journey.

“God saw you were getting tired
and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you and whispered
"Come with me"
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer
and saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating.
Hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us.
He only takes the best.”
Dad, you will be greatly missed.
