It is with broken hearts that the family of Elsie Auger announces her passing on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 94. After a stay at TBRHSC, Elsie passed away with her wish to be at her home with the love and care of family. Illness was a rarity for Elsie, a strong, resilient woman.
Elsie was born in Fort William on August 18, 1930. She grew up in Westfort and was proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She attended Crawford School and graduated from Selkirk High School. Work included Master Cleaners, Chapples Tailoring Department and Custom Upholstery as a drapery seamstress a job which allowed her to work at home and be with family. Elsie was married to Arthur (Dick) Auger August 18, 1951. They raised three children, living a brief time in Edmonton, Alberta. Elsie was widowed just prior to their 25th anniversary. Elsie’s children and families were special to her and took pride in their life accomplishments. Much time was spent following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s school and sports activities. Distance wasn’t a factor. She was able to enjoy online chats and videos wherever they lived. Elsie will be remembered as a kind, calm, caring and giving woman who thought the world of family and loved every celebration and gathering. She was always supportive and generous of her time with family and friends. She was able to live independently in her own home with the support of son Gary and daughter Carol.
Throughout her life, Elsie participated in many activities and sports including curling, golf and aerobics classes. Later, she became an avid armchair enthusiast following NHL hockey, Blue Jays, curling events and of course never missing a tennis game. Elsie loved fishing spending many hours on the lake followed by her delicious, pan-fried pickerel dinners and definitely wouldn’t pass up a casino invitation to try her luck. She served for many years in various capacities on the Oliver Road Community Centre Ladies Auxiliary. She was fortunate to have travelled extensively throughout Canada, USA and to Cuba.
Survived and deeply missed by daughter Carol Clements, sons Rick (Vivian), Gary. Also, by sister Sylvia Balla (Dave), Tallahassee, Florida, brother Ron Haluczak (Loretta), sister-in-law Helen, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Suzanne (Craig Blanchard), Stephanie Worrell (Landon, Noah, Nathan, Emily), Ricky (Courtney Wall), Jamie Clements (Kelsey, Steele, Jett), nieces, nephews.
