It is with deep sadness that the family of Gladys Grant announces her peaceful passing on December 9th, 2023.
Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Gladys was born on November 19th, 1947, and grew up in Murillo with her mom, Margaret Vaillant, and her brothers Roger, Grant and Cecil. On August 5th, 1967, Gladys married the love of her life, Brian Grant.
Together they built a family home in Murillo and raised Shawn and Marlo. When her children were older, she returned to work at the Post Office in Murillo and Kakabeka. Gladys was a loyal and proud member of St. James Anglican Church, Murillo. Gladys's faith, her love of music, and her admiration of social company filled her life with close and life-long relationships.
Gladys was an avid volunteer to numerous organizations. She was especially proud of her involvement in the founding of the Rural Cupboard Food Bank. Gladys was an extraordinary cook and loved to bake with her granddaughter Alix. She was known for her butter tarts and anyone who had them wanted more! Gladys was thrilled to be a grandmother and she treasured the time spent with Alix.
Gladys is survived by her son Shawn (Lori Anne), daughter Marlo (Ron), granddaughter Alix, brothers Roger Vaillant, Cecil (Shelby) Vaillant, sister in-law Sheila Vaillant, brothers in-law John (Lucille) Grant, Doug (Rusty) Grant, and other family. Gladys was predeceased by her parents Hector and Margaret Vaillant, husband Brian, brother Grant, sister in-law Barbara, a niece, nephew, and a great-great nephew in infancy. A heartfelt thank you goes to Dr. Cappello, Dr Acedillo, the renal team of TBRHSC, and all the staff of 2A for their care and compassion. Even when mom was not feeling well, she always complimented those who cared for her. A Celebration of Life has been planned for Friday, January 19th, 2024 at the Kakabeka Legion at 11am. All who knew Gladys are welcome to attend. Donations in memory of Gladys can be made to The Rural Cupboard Food Bank. Gladys will be laid to rest at a later date with a private family service to be held at St. James Church.
