It is with much sadness that the family of Harold Lyndon LeMarquand announce his passing at the age of 85, on August 31, 2024 at Roseview Manor.

Harold, fondly known as Satch to many, was born September 23, 1938, to Jessie and Sydney LeMarquand and grew up in Current River with his parents and five older siblings. In high school at Port Arthur Technical School (Hillcrest), he met the love of his life Ingrid, marrying on September 30th, 1961 and children soon followed. Harold worked for the Department of Highways, travelling east and west, eventually becoming a traffic technician in the engineering department for the City of Thunder Bay for over three decades.

The most important thing to Harold was his family: his bride – as he affectionately called her, his children, and his grandchildren. Aside from spending time with them, Satch was a life member of the Fort William Male Choir, singing and performing skits across the world, even singing for the Pope at the Vatican. He was an active member of Trinity United Church, where he also sang in the choir. Harold and Ingrid were fortunate to retire early together, spending winters in California and enjoying every minute of being Nana and Poppa. He had an amazing sense of humour, albeit slightly inappropriate at times, but he just loved to make people laugh. He also enjoyed golfing, curling with Ezy-Duzit and poker nights with boys.

Harold was always ready to lend a hand. He was an active volunteer at The Shelter House, donated plasma, and volunteered at Trinity United. He never hesitated to help family or friends in need.

As many know, dementia robbed him of his final years, but he still maintained that sense of humour, bright smile, and happy disposition. Until the very end, the one person, the one he never could forget was his bride, Ingrid. He always recognized her and told her how much she meant to him.

Harold was predeceased by his mother and father, older sisters Helen, Nola, and Doris, older brothers James ("Jimmy”) and Sydney (in infancy), and his in-laws Annie and August Hirn.

He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of nearly 62 years Ingrid, his sons Ron (Lisa), David (Corinne), daughter Leanne, and sister Millie. He will be dearly missed by his 8 grandchildren: Lauren (Adam), Kaylyn (Wes), Stephanie (Aaron), Katie, Cassie, Arianne, Alexander, and Alisha. His great-granddaughter, arriving January 2025, will learn all about how amazing her great-poppa was. He is also survived by many close relatives in Canada and the United States. He will also be remembered by the many cherished friends he and Ingrid have made throughout their life.

Cremation has taken place and a service in his memory will be held Thursday, September 12th, 2024 at 11am at Trinity United Church. A reception will follow at Trinity Hall.

The family would like to thank the staff at Roseview for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Harold, Ingrid and their family over the past few years.

Donations in his memory can be made to Trinity United Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Shazaam!
